History
In 1913 Henry Ford implemented the moving assembly line and in 1914 he began paying workers a $5/day wage, workers from all over the world flooded into Detroit. The Methodist Mission Societies reached out and cared for the 40,000 workers in 1914, 71% were foreign born. By 1919 they couldn’t meet the demands of these newcomers, and the Methodist Union was formed. The Union was a catalyst for evangelizing new populations. It organized new congregations, created ministries and extended grants and loans for church buildings
