Faith in Action: Affordable Housing Advocacy Event Recap
On Tuesday, October 1 over 70 people from the South Lyon First United Methodist Church, the greater South Lyon community, and two local legislators from Lansing gathered to explore the vital issues of affordable housing and economic justice, guided by the United Methodist Social Principles. This powerful event featured Paul Terranova and other supporters from MHAction, who led an insightful discussion on how we can take tangible steps to ensure everyone has access to safe, stable, and affordable housing.
Paul and his colleagues shared inspiring stories and practical strategies for advocating on behalf of manufactured housing residents, emphasizing the importance of collective action. We learned how our congregation can support broader advocacy efforts by drawing from resources available through UMCJustice.org and other justice-focused organizations.
This evening of reflection and discussion highlighted both the challenges and opportunities facing our community, reminding us of the role United Methodists and everyone play in creating a more equitable society. Thank you to all who participated, and we look forward to continuing this important work together!
